We have survived week 1 as a Family of 4!!

Week 1 down. All of us have survived and are the better for it.

Jonah Zelalem continues to adapt to his entirely new world, and his parents are still in a state of shock at their minimally, in comparison, changed world.

"Zelly" is a happy, playful, ENERGETIC kid. He grows more confident and independent (in a 10 month-old sense) every day. He crawls, cruises, stands alone (albeit very wobbly). He likes to chase after Asher and follow Rachael around. On the difficult end he likes to wake at 5:30 in the morning, which does not necessarily work well for Laura and me. He also tends to YELL at the top of his lungs when he wants something, another habit that is not so charming. Despite all of that, he is definitely entering our hearts, and more so every day.

Rachael is a GREAT, big girl and big sister. She seems to tolerate Jonah Zelalem, and even like him most/some of the time. She wants to teach him a lot of things about this world. As you can see from the picture she even wanted to carry "Smiley Frog" in her front pack like Mommy had "Baby Jonah" in the BabyBjörn. She is very excited about Hanukah beginning and enthusiatically opened her presents and his (Below picture is Daddy and Rachael spinning Dreidels at her class Hanukah party). She is handling her significant life change fairly well. The major problem seems to be she is having trouble getting to sleep. All in all, I am certain she is glad to have us home as an expanded family.

To sum it up, we are alive, surviving, managing, and believe that soon we will be mostly functional again (at least within the decade)! Some of you adoptive families out there PLEASE tell us this is normal!!

We are sorry if email or phone replies are still delayed we are trying our best to focus on our 2 children and their needs. We hope you understand and can't wait to step outside and make contact with our valued family and friends.

We wish everyone a wonderful, happy, healthy, Holiday and New Year season full of family and peace.

Oh, yes, things will get to a "new normal" relatively soon. For us, I think things really settled in at about 3-4 months, but we adopted 2 and they were older, remember, so maybe it will be easier/quicker for you???

Sounds like you are focusing on the right things, spending time with your family. You'll have time to catch up on emails later, I promise.

Oh yeah, of course! It's like anytime you have a new baby, birth or otherwise: everything gets turned upside down and crazed and then it sorts itself out to new normal. Soon soon, you're on the fast track now. And Happy Hannukah! Such a beautiful holiday to celebrate together this special year!
